The Lord Baron's Own Watch of the Peace
Also known as “Watchmen” or just the “City Watch”, the Watch of the Peace is Ludheim’s law enforcement and peacekeeping organization. Traditionally, it gets its authority from the office of the Lord Baron, but in recent centuries a web of minor nobles and bureaucrats have sprung up to muddy the chain-of-command. Direct day-to-day operations are conducted by the Chief Watchman, with lesser officers underneath him filtering down to the patrolman on the street.
Ludheim’s Watch does not have the best reputation. Centuries ago genius wizard Manfred Quell built the city a small army of clockwork men. The Watch has become reliant on these constructs, leaning on them far too much. As a result, sloppy work and corruption have become commonplace.
There is some small hope. Small bands of younger watchmen are working to stamp out corruption and modernize outdated methods. One such group has been studying forensic necromancy in the city’s morgues.
